KDE Updates

Well! I just applied a bunch of KDE updates and am much impressed right away! I’ve only had it installed minutes and already noticed a lot of improvements:

KDE 4 – Third Time’s the Charm?

Having recently upgraded to Jaunty, I thought it might be time to give KDE another try. I have been a little tough on KDE in the past, but I have always maintained it has potential. Time to see if 4.2 can finally deliver!

Updating to Intrepid: Notes

So I decided to update two machines to the new release of Ubuntu (8.10, Intrepid Ibex) today. One is a laptop that I have been running Kubuntu with KDE 4 on and is my tote-around machine. The other is my main desktop on which I am mostly running Xubuntu (but am considering changing).

Tonight I was fiddling with my laptop, upon which I am currently running KDE 4.1. After a slight bit of effort, it’s actually working out quite well, and I feel a little bad about how harsh I was on it earlier.

A Second Taste of KDE: Laptop Flavor

Although KDE 4.1 was not ready for my multi-headed desktop, I eventually realized I could give it a shot on my laptop. Since my laptop is practically a thin-client for my desktop right now, I can be a little more daring with it.

Most of the initial stuff I will try to figure out myself first before I go-a-Googling. Hopefully this will work and help convince me that KDE is a well-designed DE choice. It also might allow an insight or two from someone who is new to KDE.

My first taste of KDE…

As I briefly mentioned in another post, I am seriously concerned with GNOME’s infatuation with Microsoft technologies.

As a newcomer to the Linux scene, I was not aware that GNOME was tied up with Novell and all in a 3-way with Redmond. However, the more I find out about, the more discomforted I become – and, having recently heard about the new KDE4 – I thought I might give KDE a shot!
